Reclaim Your Energy with This Breathing Exercise for Founders

This week’s challenge is all about reclaiming our energy - our actual energy in our mind and in our body so we can have more energy to pour it into the things that we’re passionate about and get through the day. Who of us doesn’t want more energy in our lives right now? Many of us are feeling just a little tired right about now, and it’s easy to go back to all of the common things we might think about, like sleep and other techniques to try and make sure that we have enough energy during the day.

But this week’s challenge is about finding energy somewhere else, it’s about finding one of the little saboteurs that’s taking energy from us all the time and little pieces here and there and we may not even be realizing it. Taking energy in our mind and in our body. So this week’s challenge is to return to a practice many of us may be familiar with, and some of us will be seeing it for the first time, called the belly breath super set.

What’s so incredible about the belly breath super set is it allows us to get our mind and our body into a calmer state. We call this one of the “big sledgehammer tools” - this is one that I like to use in emergency situations when I don’t feel like I’m in a calm place or I’m trying to get back to a level of mental performance that I have to have calm in order to pull it off.

But this tool is also an incredible way to get ourselves really, really relaxed as part of a regular routine. If you’re like me and you’re a person who feels intensity or excitement or we can also call it anxiety in some cases anywhere between the navel and the top of your head. If you feel it in your arms, your forearms, or in your hands; if you feel that butterfly feeling in the pit of your stomach; or if you feel tension in your chest. Some of us feel tension in our necks and in our backs.

If you’re feeling it anywhere in those places, or if you feel it in your mind like some of us do as well when we have trouble focusing and our thoughts are racing, then this is the tool to help bring you back to calm again.

So, use the belly breath super set tool this week and what I want you to watch is to see if you get additional energy. Now, this isn’t the type of activity that gets you super amped and excited with your blood pumping necessarily. This is more about letting go of extra energy cycles that are happening in our brain because we’re thinking or we’re obsessing, or extra energy cycles that are happening in our body because we’re holding ourselves tense in some way or we’re feeling some sort of sensation that’s requiring energy in the body.

Practice the belly breath super set. Use the demonstration in the Founders First app. See if you can do it two or three, maybe four times over the next week. Bonus points: see if you can maybe do it twice in the same day. And watch to see if you can reclaim any energy. See if your energy score ticks up a little bit higher for that day as you let go of these extra mental and physical cycles that were burning energy that you might not have seen just under the surface before you did the activity.

The belly breath super set tool is one of many tools available in the Founders First mindstate tracking app for entrepreneurs. See all the tools and get personalized recommendations on how to best invest your time each day based on your current mindstate by trying the app free for 7 days.
